City of Hawarden’s Ongoing Response to Covid-19

Our community’s health and safety are essential priorities for the City of Hawarden. We will continue to work together the community to keep these at the forefront, as we provide city services. We are inviting residents to access City services remotely if possible, at this time. This is especially true if you are experiencing symptoms including fever, cough, fatigue, or difficulty breathing.

Visits to the City Office: We are happy to help you with questions or service changes by phone or by email at (712) 551-2565 or

Paying Utility Bills: Payments can be put in our drop box at the City Office, 1150 Central Avenue. You can also call us to make payments arrangements at (712) 551-2565 during business hours (Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

Building Permits: Permit applications are available and can be submitted online at Help is available over the phone by calling Amber Van Wyhe at 712-551-2565.

Contacting City Staff: You can call staff at (712) 551-2565. All service calls are asked to go through this number. We are asking the public to minimize contact and will only be handling emergency type services at this time. Please do not contact an employee directly unless it is through this number.

Library Services: The Hawarden Public Library will be closed until further notice. All items checked out will be renewed. We ask that you NOT return items to our book drop.

Other City Services: A listing of other commonly used City Services can be found online at and, as always, you can call us at (712) 551-2565.

Of course, as with any illness, use common sense. Wash your hands, cover a cough or sneeze, keep your distance, and stay home when ill. Call your care provider in advance if you think you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. For up to date information on Coronavirus in the United States:
