We work hard, we play hard. Hawarden has been working diligently to provide our residents with the best opportunities in recreation. We have an outdoor pool, 3 softball diamonds, 3 baseball diamonds, 6 community parks and 1 commercial fitness center.
Summer Rec Program
This program offers baseball and softball for boys and girls in K- 5th grade and golf for 5th – 8th grade students. The season runs for 6 weeks beginning the end of May. This program offers daily practices, weekly league games, tournaments, and a fun and safe environment for the kids. Pre-registration and fee is required.

For girls & boys who are 4 & 5 year old (4 before June 1 – no exceptions) & older who are not eligible to be in the K-1 program.
No registration or fee is required.
T-ball is held the 1st 4 Monday’s in June from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the high school fields.
Children must wear tennis shoes, bring a glove & have an adult along to help.
Baseball, Softball & Golf
Kindergarten – 5th Grade Boys and Girls. $20 fee.
PeeWee League: Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Little League: 2nd and 3rd grade
Junior League: 4th – 5th grade
Golf for 5th – 8th grade boys and girls.
Practices will be held on Mondays & Wednesdays and games on Tuesdays & Thursdays.
Baseball & softball schedules will be handed out in school closer to date.

The Hawarden swimming pool offers swimming lessons for Levels 3 – 6.

Class sessions:Levels 3-6 are held in July for 2 weeks.
Cost of lessons is $25 for Hawarden in-city-limit residents and $30 for non-residents.

Hawarden City Park Enclosed Shelter
Hawarden Community Center – Perfect for conferences, weddings, family reunions and conventions.
Meeting Rooms upstairs in City Offices (elevator available)
Available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Seven spots are located on the southeast corner of 15th St/Avenue E and 4 spots are just south of there, in Veteran’s Memorial Park, closer to the swimming pool. Each pad rents for $15 per night, has complete hook-up water, sewer, choice of 20, 30 or 50 amp for electric, and has cable hookups. Payment can either be brought into the City Offices at 1150 Central Ave between the hours of 7:30 a.m. & 4:30 p.m. Mon. thru Fri. or can be put in an envelope, along with pad number that you’re paying for, and deposited in a box found at both locations.
